Gotcha Racing
SCORE: 68
Gotcha Racing is a downloadable only hand held video game on the
Nintendo 3DS. Players will build their cars, race, earn money, and
gamble on getting new pieces for their vehicle. Family Friendly Gaming
was provided a download code for Gotcha Racing on the Nintendo 3DS.
There is even an option to combine parts to increase their stats. Please
note not all combinations will work. Sometimes parts will just vanish as
the combine fails.
The racing action in Gotcha Racing is fun. Both screens are used, and it
is an awesome experience. The cars are a bit on the small side. Cars can
bump into one another and bump into the walls. This is really bad in
Gotcha Racing because your special parts can get easily destroyed that
way. How do you get special parts? Spend those Nintendo coins you get
from walking around with your system.
There are only twelve racing tracks in Gotcha Racing. There are six
racing grades in Gotcha Racing. How quickly you get through them depends
on your luck. Since the only way of upgrading your car is to spend in
game currency on capsules. I even got some of the exact same parts twice
in a row. How crazy is that? If I owned the item I should not have
gotten another one. Items can be sold for way less than you spent on
them.
I know there are families out there that have been devastated by
gambling. If you come from one of those families, or have problems with
gambling, or problems with addiction then you need to run far away from
Gotcha Racing. I do not want to be responsible for causing you to
relapse or the destruction of your family. I felt it was appropriate to
give that kind of a public service announcement in this review.
I wish Gotcha Racing let players purchase parts by saving up. At the
very least Gotcha Racing should not keep giving me the same item. So I
would go race again, win, and get more money to try again. Too often
Gotcha Racing felt like I was wasting time and in game currency. But
without upgrades I would lose certain races over and over again. At
times Gotcha Racing felt like an exercise in futility. Which is a shame
because Gotcha Racing had so much promise.
