Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin

The Lego Ninjago video games continue to improve and get better. Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin is the latest hand held release to take a step up from previous games. Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin is available on the Nintendo 3DS and Playstation Vita. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a copy of Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin on the PS Vita for this review. I am very thankful that I am able to play and review this hand held video game.

Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin starts us out with Ronin stealing the memories of the four major ninjas. They go on a quest to regain their memories. Thankfully it is a short journey. They must each recover their obsidian weapon to get their memories back. From there we are off to elemental forges, finding the artifact that ties it all together, and then going after the bad guy.

If you are into the television show and movies you will know these characters a lot better. Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin contains a variety of humorous moments. These ninjas are not all buff and stuff. They are not always thrilled about going into dangerous situations. Who can blame them? Who wants to go into a live and active volcano to retrieve something? Not this guy.

Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin has normal Lego levels where we destroy everything, solve puzzles, and build stuff. There are also vehicle levels in Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin. Thankfully they are put in intelligent places. Like when we are traversing from one location to another one. The map screen lets us enter the ten chapters, and find hidden objects for some more gold bricks.

I do have one problem with Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin. I would play a level in a world, stop, and save. When I came back to the game I had to sit through the cut scene again. I tried everything to skip them. Nothing I tried worked. So that was a little bummer. I also got stuck a couple of times because something distracted me and I did not get the visual clue about what to do next. I had to restart those levels to see what I missed.

There are plenty of things to do, and secrets to unlock in Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin. Each level has multiple missions. Not everything can be completed the first time through. After you acquire all of the characters it takes a replay of those levels to get everything. At least one replay. You may miss something and have to target a certain gold brick in a subsequent attempt.

Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin is a fun game for families. I love how this hand held video game mixes up the various components. We have to search around an area, build some things, go into a tornado spin, fight some guys, go through a flying level, find the right character with the right skill set, solve a puzzle, and enjoy some cut scenes. All of that is mixed together really well in Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin.
