Maze

I know what many members of Family Friendly Gaming Nation are saying. Ya'll are saying: "TreeFall Studios - they sound familiar." You would be correct. They are responsible for The Letter on the Wii U. Which has no relation to The Cave in case you were wondering. How can I put this nicely? The Letter was never competing for GOTY.

Maze on the Wii U is a vast improvement over The Letter. This is one of the things Family Friendly Gaming looks for from any indie developer. Maze is bright, colorful, has some funny little sign animations, and has intelligently designed levels. Which are mazes in case you were wondering. You were weren't you? Wondering that is.

The music in Maze is very pleasant to listen to. Again TreeFall Studios has shown major improvement. Maze has a nice fun and fresh feel to it. The music helps set the atmosphere in Maze that families can enjoy in this downloadable only video game.

Here is where Maze hits a snag - the controls. They are very hard to deal with. To me they felt very clunky, and not very intuitive. I kept pressing the wrong directions, the wrong buttons and dying on the jumps. There are some tough jumps in Maze on the Wii U. Collected coins in a level do not stay with you. So if you finally make a hard jump and die later, you have to repeat everything in that level again.

I love the maze concept, and idea of going through mazes in Maze. There are a couple of different modes that families can enjoy. Be careful moving the screen around too fast - I got a few headaches from it. Which happens to me on most first person perspective games when the screen moves around too fast.

The overall verdict is Maze is a good idea that looks good, sounds good, and needs improvement in terms of the controls. TreeFall Studios is climbing up and showing improvement. I am very interested in what they come up with in the future.
