Norn 9 Var Commons
SCORE: 69
Virtual novels have been a neat new thing to see out of Japan in
recent years. Norn 9 Var Commons on the Playstation Vita is one of the
most recent releases. This game actually comes with a mini game that is
really different. The game play in Norn 9 Var Commons consists of
reading the dialogue and making choices at certain points. The big
replay in Norn 9 Var Commons is to go back and make different choices.
What kind of choices are there in Norn 9 Var Commons? Early on you can
pick which girl to play. Then you can pick which boy to get to know. The
goal of course is to grow close and nurture romance. In some ways Norn 9
Var Commons is like a video game romance novel. Which is why it has
earned the thirteen and older only rating from the ESRB organization.
I am very thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a physical copy
of Norn 9 Var Commons on the PS Vita. I am also very thankful that Aksys
Games provided for the millions upon millions of physical copy gamers
out there. The PS Vita really needed some games out at retail, otherwise
many families thought the system was completely dead.
Some of the bad content in Norn 9 Var Commons is bad language, violence,
blood, powers, espers, and of course sexual content. If you put Norn 9
Var Commons on Auto to scroll through the text at a leisurely pace the
PS Vita will fall asleep. I let my hubby watch a bit of Norn 9 Var
Commons, and it was a race to see which would fall asleep faster; him or
the PS Vita system.
Norn 9 Var Commons tries to captivate the attention of males by having
characters with powers, time travel, violent images, and more. It did
not seem to have the desired effect, and then it made me scratch my
head. I wish Norn 9 Var Commons had gone more in the direction of
romance novel for the female gamers. There is nothing wrong with
targeting women only. As is Norn 9 Var Commons is half in and half out.
The characters are nicely drawn, and there is fantastic music in Norn 9
Var Commons. The voices are in Japanese. I caught a word here and there
in Japanese that I knew. It helped to have the English text on the
screen. The Norn 9 Quest mini game is an odd inclusion, but it did give
me something else to do - besides read about the characters as they grew
affection for one another.
