Pixels
SCORE: 67
Another of the Black Friday movies we picked up was Pixels. As a long
time gamer I was very curious to see this film. I know plenty of people
have hated on Pixels. I enjoyed the movie, and laughed during plenty of
parts. With that said this is not a good movie for kids. They messed up
this movie with so much profanity. It was not needed and really hurts
Pixels.
Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, and Josh
Gad headline Pixels. It is all about these kids who are really good at
finding the patterns in the arcade video games. They compete for the
world championship of these arcade games. Later we find out that one of
them uses "cheat codes" to win. Here is my little rant. The greedy
haters in our industry like to use those words to try and sway public
opinion. To me they are enhancements. I do not think they belong in a
competition. I see nothing wrong with an enhancement device being used
at home though.
A recording of these arcade video games were sent out into space. Aliens
found them, and thought we were declaring war on them. So they attacked
us with our own thirty year old arcade video games. First to win three
of these games decides whether planet Earth is destroyed or not. The
plot in Pixels is very predictable. There are numerous enjoyable moments
and funny scenes in Pixels. Adam Sandler really lets loose in some of
them.
There was a short scene in Pixels that resonated with me personally.
Adam Sandler is talking to a kid playing a macabre, morbid, mean,
hateful, nasty, ugly, over the top, ultra violent video game. He makes a
point about how meaningless and worthless the ultra violent, macabre and
morbid video games are. Plus it can really damage the brains of kids. It
made me think why is a kid being allowed to play such an adult only
video game? That is child abuse.
There is plenty of violence in Pixels. The alien characters fall apart
into blocks or pixels. Humans are pixelated for transportation. Which
can be freaky to see at first. The bonus content on the DVD Family
Friendly Gaming purchased is Q*Bert, Dojo Quest, and Game On Music
Video. I like that song. It is not as good as KJ-52's video game song
but decent all the same. I enjoyed seeing all these old franchises, and
they are very respected in Pixels.
