Rakoo & Friends

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Rakoo & Friends on the Wii U. I am very thankful to play and review Rakoo & Friends. This downloadable only home console video game is similar to the app Rakoo's Adventure. I think the Wii U may have more app ports than anything else. Especially on the Nintendo eShop. There are over forty-five levels in Rakoo & Friends on the Wii U.

On the Wii U Rakoo & Friends costs $9.99 at the time this review was written. The app is a free app with those dreaded and despised in-app purchases. I have not played the app, nor do I have any interest in playing the app. I like Rakoo & Friends on the Wii U. I believe this is the kind of a video game that works so much better with a joystick than touch only controls.

The music in Rakoo & Friends is sweet. The graphics are generally bright and colorful. There is some cartoon violence with power-ups. We can knock over shells, and enemies that get in our path. This video game is a level based runner. Which means each of the levels is a runner level with a start and a finish line. Make it to the finish line and you complete the level.

There are a variety of different tasks to be completed in each of the levels. There are three large gold coins, and a ton of flowers to collect. The flowers can be spent on things like accessories for your character. Rakoo & Friends has a nice risk/reward system in terms of special skills. You lose a heart for each of the special skills you turn on. There are also power ups in some levels that will help players progress.

Levels in Rakoo & Friends can be really easy. The one exception to that is the boss levels. They are definitely more challenging. There are more objects to avoid like the massively large boss characters. The menu screen requires touch screen only maneuverability. Not being able to use the buttons is really odd in my professional opinion. At least we can use the joystick to glide around the game play screens.

I had fun playing Rakoo & Friends on the Wii U. I hope to see more games like this one in the future. I hope there are sequels to Rakoo & Friends in the future. I could even see Rakoo & Friends as part of a physical copy compilation disc for the super majority of families that purchase physical copies of games at retail. I love that each of the levels in Rakoo & Friends has a finish line.
