Rocket League
SCORE: 85
Rocket League is one of the coolest video games to release this year.
It is soccer done with vehicles. Families can drive, jump, hit the turbo
button and more while playing Rocket League. The objective is to get
more goals than the other team. Rocket League lets players decide if
they want to go one one, two on two, three on three, or four on four.
Driving up the walls, and along the walls is a very viable strategy in
this home console video game.
Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Rocket League on
the Playstation 4. With the update it clocked in just over three gigs.
The only thing holding Rocket League back from becoming an epic hit is
the lack of a physical copy. Many families will miss out on Rocket
League because it is handicapped with the downloadable only stigma.
Graphically Rocket League looks great. From the vehicles to the stadiums
to the giant ball. Cars can crash into you and it will send you flying.
You can do the same thing to them. This is the majority of the violent
content. There is also being able to make another car explode if you hit
it with a full turbo speed. This is much harder than it sounds. It
seemed to happen at least once per five minute match.
Rocket League has a really cool local multiplayer with a split screen.
This is where Rocket League is really popular. As is the start of any
level. This is where (if you time it just right) you can speed toward
the ball and get a goal. Other players know how to defend this tactic.
So the battles would really get going as the ball would go toward one
goal or the other one. Rocket League also has online play for those into
that kind of thing.
Rocket League contains a downloadable soundtrack on the Playstation 4. I
am not going to include that in this review. There are numerous
strategies in Rocket League whether you are on offense or defense.
Sometimes it is better to stay away from the pack and look for an
opportunity to turbo into the ball for a score. Other times it is
awesome to be in the mix and getting knocked around while trying to get
the ball.
Rocket League is a fun game for most ages of the family. The violence is
kept light. Rocket League can lead to real world arguments. It can also
lead families to work together for the common goal. Rocket League lets
players be on the same team and work together. If the competition aspect
is causing issues in your home, then encourage the arguing parties to
work together on the same team instead. That leads to less arguments.
