Shelby

Shelby is a heart warming Christmas movie all about a dog that loves to run away. This dog Shelby loves to be free. He keeps escaping from the rescue shelter for dogs. A rich woman comes into this rescue shelter to find a dog for her snooty son. She picks Shelby. The dog catcher (played by Tom Arnold) is offered a lot of money to let her adopt the dog. He is on board with the transaction. One small problem, Shelby escapes again.

This escape is where Shelby gets hit by a snow plow, and brought back to the home of the Parker family. Who is in the process of setting up for the perfect Christmas. Jake Parkers (played by John Paul Ruttan) is an aspiring magician. His tricks do not work until Shelby comes into his life. Jake believes Santa brought him this dog, since that is what he wants. The biggest obstacle is his mother who hates dogs since she was traumatized at a young age.

There are plenty of interesting family members in Shelby. The most interesting is the grandfather (played by Chevy Chase). It is fascinating to see Chevy Chase in another Christmas movie, and to reference being a part of past Christmas disasters. There are plenty of hijinks and some gaseous humor in Shelby. Aside from that Shelby is a pretty clean movie for families.

There are no bonus features on the disc Family Friendly Gaming was provided. I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a copy of Shelby on DVD. This is a movie that can quickly move up the list of fantastic Christmas related movies. I did not catch anything about Jesus in Shelby. I did notice the final lesson in Shelby is our goal should be to make others happy instead of ourselves. Which is a great lesson to hear in a modern day movie.

There is some misdirection and deception in Shelby. It is done to keep the adults busy while the kids try to rescue Shelby. There is also a bit of deception near the end of Shelby. I won't share what that is about. Shelby has quite a bit of character growth in the ninety-two minutes. I am pleasantly surprised at how much growth and development there is in Shelby. I believe families will enjoy watching Shelby. Even if you just give it a rental.
