Shelter 2
SCORE: 73
Might and Delight continues to improve their craft with the release
of Shelter 2 on the Personal Computer. This Steam game lets you take on
the role of a pregnant lynx. She must hunt food to feed her young. They
will eventually grow up as the seasons pass in this wilderness
simulation video game. Then players can follow the family tree down with
whichever lynx is their favorite.
Shelter 2 is distinctive graphically. There are a couple of reactions I
have seen in regards to the graphical representation in Shelter 2. There
are those that love it. There are those that hate it. There are those
that grapple for words to describe it. I personally believe Shelter 2
looks better than Shelter. I liked watching the seasons change in this
Personal Computer downloadable only video game.
Retro Family has come back to do the music in Shelter 2. I like the
music and the special effect sounds in Shelter 2. Although it can get
old to hear your cubs cry out for food so often. Especially after I had
just caught them something. Those rabbits skirt all around at all kinds
of annoying angles in Shelter 2 too. Hitting them head on in a full
sprint like jousting works most of the time thankfully.
Every single time you catch an animal in Shelter 2 there is a blood
splatter that disappears quickly. As of the writing of this review there
is no official ratings organization that has rated the content in
Shelter 2. I do not know if they will rate Shelter 2 in the future or
not. I would expect Shelter 2 to get an 'E10+' to possibly a 'T' rating.
That is just my personal opinion.
There is something liberating about hunting in Shelter 2. Then it
becomes boring to have to be responsible and catch food for your
starving family. Finally you resign yourself to your fate and work on
keeping your family alive. Shelter 2 can be like going through the
different stages in life. You realize how much responsibility sits on
the shoulders of adults. How much they go through for their children.
