Squinkies
SCORE: 90
We recently ran into Squinkies on the Nintendo DS in the bargain bin
of a local retailer. Shouldn't Family Friendly Gaming have known about
this kids game? Sadly the PR employees and/or PR firm for Activision
failed us. They did not send us any information on this wonderful game
when it was originally released. We are only so many people with only so
many financial resources. We are not capable of being aware of every
video game release.
What we can promise is to cover these wonderful games for families when
we find them. Which is exactly what we are doing with Squinkies. We even
fast tracked this hand held video game based on the toy franchise. This
is a great Nintendo DS game that kids will really enjoy. The mini games
are not that difficult plus they are actually fun. Players earn coins
that allow them to earn new Squinkies.
The music in Squinkies is fantastic. There are even verbal sound bytes
in Squinkies that will give kids direction on what to do next. I love it
when video games provide guidance for kids. There are mini mazes with
turtles. Players must avoid them and get to all the orbs. This is where
mini games are played and new Squinkies can be unlocked. There is also a
giant gumball machine where we put the coins into to earn even more
Squinkies.
There are tons of Squinkies to unlock in this hand held video game. Kids
will get a real blast out of collecting them all in this hand held video
game. I will warn parents of one thing. Playing Squinkies may encourage
your child to ask for some of the real life toys. That goes along with
any franchise that contains toys, and video games. Companies try to
cross-promote the franchise to make as much money as possible.
The good news is we found Squinkies for under five dollars. For me that
is worth the price of admission. Especially when I can bring a good,
fun, and clean kids game to the millions upon millions within Family
Friendly Gaming Universe. Squinkies looks good, sounds good, and plays
really well. We let some kids play Squinkies, and they loved it. Some of
them learned DS games work on a 3DS.
