Sumico

Gamers have a bad image. They are seen as slothful, lazy, unintelligent, obese, and worthless. The core of that image comes from the bad image of video games. Video games are seen as wasteful, lame, hate filled, violent, psycho creating, and offensive. There are certainly plenty of games and gamers that bolster those images.

I am happy to report Sumico on the Nintendo 3DS does not fit into that image. In fact Sumico can improve the image of the gamer and video games. This is a puzzle game with educational properties. Families add, subtract, multiply and more in eighty-two levels.

The right side of the screen in Sumico shows a number. Let's say two. Players must create that number. So I tap on one, draw a line to the plus sign, and then draw a line to another one. In other words I just added one to one and created a two tile.

The music in Sumico is inspiring. I like listening to this track while trying to find a way to create the numbers on the screen. The graphics in Sumico look neat too. There are plenty of colors in this downloadable only hand held video game. I loved seeing tiles cascade down after I computated.

I did some research and found Sumico is also an app. Sumico on the 3DS costs $2.99 and there are no in-app purchases. There are also no in game advertisements. You pay one time on the 3DS and enjoy Sumico as long as you have room on your SD card.

Sumico can teach families basic mathematics. This is a great way to learn while having fun. Sumico can help the entire video game industry with its bad image. I hope to see more games like Sumico in the future. I also hope to see Sumico released in a physical format at some point.
