The Dungeoning
SCORE: 60
Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for The
Dungeoning on Steam. This Personal Computer video game is retro in terms
of the looks and sounds. The random generation of the dungeons matches
the 'try to get as many points as possible' theme. The Dungeoning is a
hack and slash game where the odds are stacked against the player. I
wish leveling up was carried across into new games after the character
died. It would help with the replay value.
The Dungeoning is a cheaper downloadable only video game at $6.99. That
selling point will attract curious hardcore gamers. I do feel The
Dungeoning is more for the hardcore gamer than the casual gamer. Graphic
hounds will take one look at The Dungeoning and turn their noses up.
Everyone who saw me playing thought I was playing a skeleton. I had to
explain to them I was playing a knight.
There is violence, blood, and death in The Dungeoning. It is really easy
to die in The Dungeoning. Some randomly generated dungeons were easier
than others. I did not find a good way of ensuring my dungeons were the
easiest possible. That would have been really cool if it had been
included. Maybe it will be included in a sequel. Or in a future update.
Since this is a downloadable only game, updates are possible.
The controls in The Dungeoning can be a bit clunky. I was able to play
The Dungeoning with the Personal Computer controller we have here at
Family Friendly Gaming. The Dungeoning feels like a game that would be
on the Wii U, or maybe Xbox One. In my professional opinion The
Dungeoning would get the thirteen and older rating from the ESRB.
Although the ESRB has been known to be lenient on ratings.
I asked for a reviewable copy of The Dungeoning. It looked interesting.
It is a different kind of a game at least for me. If you can live for a
bit in The Dungeoning then it becomes more fun. Dying over and over
again is what hurts The Dungeoning. I come back to getting to keep our
experience from each game. I know of other indie games that do that, and
it makes them so much better.
