The Escapists
SCORE: 56
The Escapists is a downloadable only video game on the Personal
Computer (Steam), and Xbox One. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a
copy of The Escapists on the Xbox One. The Escapists has a top down view
like The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. The graphics in The
Escapists remind me of Terraria or Pixel Piracy. If you are not familiar
with those, then how about Final Fantasy IV on the Super NES? Family
Friendly Gaming has images of this game in the Images section.
You are a prisoner in The Escapists. Your goal is to escape prison.
There are six different prisons you will have to try and bust out of.
Different prisons require different methods. The Escapists requires the
gamer think about what to do. Along the way you can do jobs for the
other prisoners. You may craft or find tools and weapons. You can work
out during certain times to strengthen yourself to be able to knock out
a guard, and then steal his uniform.
You are not a nice person in The Escapists. The goal is get out of that
area. Failure will result in getting shot or beaten by the guards.
Showers are important in The Escapists since they regenerate your
energy. Health and energy are important in The Escapists. Getting too
fatigued will hurt you since you will not be able to do much. Sleeping
and following the prisons schedule are also very important in The
Escapists. Do the wrong thing at the wrong time and you may attract the
attention of the guards. You do not want that attention.
The controls can be a bit clunky in The Escapists. There are strange,
rude, and awkward comments in the showers in The Escapists (along with
the lack of clothing). This and the violence are the main reasons for
the thirteen and older only rating in my opinion. The music is nice, and
the special effect sounds work nicely. The Escapists does not let you
live out your sentence in peace. I was hoping for that as an option. You
know pay your debt to society for your misdeeds.
The Escapists does not allow gamers the option of singing praises to God
while in prison. As I played through The Escapists I thought of Paul and
Silas being wrongfully imprisoned - they prayed and sang praises to God.
I did not even find a chapel in The Escapists. I know many people find
faith and God while in prison. It would have been really cool if The
Escapists had brought that reality into their video game. After all it
is based on prison, and prayer has freed quite a few prisoners.
