Underground

Underground is one of the most interesting action adventure puzzle video games the WMG has played in years. Players control two robotic arms while clearing a path for the other robot characters to get to the end of the level. Players start with three tools to interact with the environment. A grabber, drill, and laser. Each is used in specific locations. Like the laser can melt completely frozen robots.

Boss levels in Underground are a great test to see how coordinated the player has become with the robotic arms. In the first boss level I had to laser the giant squid arms to keep them back. I also had to laser the robots to get them moving. Timing is key and important in Underground on the Wii U. Fail at the timing in a boss level and your friendly robot will get squashed.

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a downloadable code of Underground just before the game was released to the public. Underground clocks in just under one gig in terms of memory. Which can be important if you do not have enough room on your Wii U. The WMG hears from members of Family Friendly Gaming Universe frequently that they only have so much memory left on their machines.

Before each new world, and at the end there are neat little cut scenes in Underground. The story can remind gamers of a variety of different franchises. Like what? Sonic Underground, Doctor Who, Wall-E, and more. This is meant as a compliment to Underground on the Wii U. The WMG likes Underground. The unique game play with these two giant arms is cool.

It can take some time to adapt to the controls in Underground. The WMG had to replay the tutorial levels due to getting stuck in them. The 'R' and 'L' buttons are different from the 'ZR' and 'ZL' buttons. You may be laughing about that at home. Just imagine someone trying to play Underground for a review getting stuck and wondering if the game is broken. Underground is not broken in case you wondered. It was an user error.
