Unity

Family Friendly Gaming was recently provided a reviewable copy of Unity. What is Unity? Software used to make video games? Yes, but this is a different Unity. This Unity is a card game. A card game that let us: "Celebrate the Holy Festivals of the Lord," "Play righteous cards to defeat evil attacks," "Invite other players to enter into righteousness," and Learn the Word of God."

I read through the instructions of Unity. I ended up confused trying to figure out how the rules worked in this game. I then let my dad read the instructions and he came up with a completely different way of playing. The same thing when my mom read the instructions in how to play Unity. My little brother got lost early on. We decided to play Unity like Uno. It made the most sense to us. Since Unity is a card game we can use whatever rules we want.

I really wish Christian card games would be less confusing in how they control. I should not need a doctor's degree in one game to play. It makes card games less approachable, and limits the audience. Families want a game they can pick up, learn quickly, and have fun playing. We did that with Unity thanks to our own set of rules. If you can find this card game I suggest doing the same thing.

The art work in Unity is on the plain side. The evil cards seemed to have the most work done on them. Certain cards are too similar and it gets confusing when sorting and playing. There are Bible verses on cards in the Unity deck. I have to admit I rarely read those verses because I was spending more time trying to figure out what each card was, and how it could be used.

I like the idea behind Unity. I think there is a solid game in there. Especially if you play it like Uno. Oh you played a Righteous five card? Okay I can play a five card, or a Righteous card. Or put down an evil card, and make you draw two. Unless you have a God card that cancels out the evil attack. Like Uno with some modified rules that fit Unity much better.
