Wind-up Knight 2
SCORE: 80
I first came across Wind-up Knight on the OUYA. It was one of the few
games on the OUYA that I actually liked. I am so happy to see Wind-up
Knight 2 appear on the Wii U. The unable to stop running levels mixed
with the quirky humor helps Wind-up Knight 2 rise above so many of the
endless runners out there. Please note Wind-up Knight 2 is not an
endless runner since each level has an end to it.
We take Sir Sprint through all of these levels in Wind-up Knight 2. At
the start of each level there is some pretend social networking from a
variety of characters. There are forty levels in Wind-up Knight 2 that
can be played four different ways. Each way you complete earns you a
crest. These are needed to unlock certain levels along the way. There is
also a tournament mode in Wind-up Knight 2.
There are numerous secrets in Wind-up Knight 2 as well as better
equipment to purchase. The player's clockwork knight receives a variety
of interesting messages while playing through levels in Wind-up Knight
2. I found humor in almost all of them. Please note some of the humor
can be a bit on the crude side. We also use our sword to dispose of a
variety of creatures in Wind-up Knight 2. The ESRB was not capable of
finding any words to describe this fantasy/cartoon violence.
Another element in Wind-up Knight 2 that makes it unique is your wind up
power. Players will run out of wind up power while playing Wind-up
Knight 2 on the Wii U. So wind up items need to be collected in the
level to recharge it. What happens if you don't? Your character will
explode. To earn a 'S' rating in any level in Wind-up Knight 2 you need
to collect all the coins and the gnome hat. Those hats can be very hard
to collect in some levels.
Wind-up Knight 2 is a downloadable only Wii U game that clocks in just
over one gig. Wind-up Knight 2 would make a great game to be a part of
the indie physical copy program we have discussed here at Family
Friendly Gaming. I hope to see physical copies of Wind-up Knight 2 in
the near future. I should warn you that Wind-up Knight 2 gets hard after
the ninth level. You have to know the controls and get good at swapping
them quickly.
