XPlane 10

A reader request came in to review XPlane 10 on the Personal Computer. This is the most realistic flight simulator video game on the market to date. Families can even fly the space shuttle in XPlane 10. It took three of us here at Family Friendly Gaming to figure out how to play XPlane 10 on the PC. We were told the best way to play XPlane 10 is with a joystick.

Guess what Family Friendly Gaming needs to financially invest in? You got it - a joystick on the computer. Once the money has been saved, and allocated then one of us will look at XPlane 10 again. The EIC contacted the Laminar Research on how to play with the mouse - but those instructions did not work for us. Nor did the help in the game. I finally figured out how to take off with a plane in XPlane 10.

The first thing I did was turn on the explanation of each of the controls in the cockpits. There are all kinds of buttons, knobs, switches, and adjustable sticks in airplanes. BTW XPlane 10 simulates flying a plane. If you have never done that then you will be confused. I did not find a tutorial to teach me how to fly the planes in XPlane 10. I released the brake, and found the throttle.

I eventually found the right mixture of buttons to get into the air. I then went into a circle pattern around the airport area. I went through buildings, cars, and trucks. I only crashed when I hit the ground. XPlane 10 was very nice to me and reset my plane back at the airport, and back on the ground where I started. XPlane 10 took a lot of trial, error, and experimentation. Remember I don't know how to fly.

XPlane 10 looks really good in the cockpit. The houses and cars look okay. XPlane 10 is massive in terms of size. There are eight DVDs included in the package of XPlane 10. That would give you the entire world. Thankfully families can pick just a country or two to see what those airports are like. Loading times take awhile, and the voices can freak one out once the game finishes loading.

Issues aside I like XPlane 10. This is a solid flight simulator. There are numerous planes, and tons of airports. If you have the time, or you are learning how to fly - XPlane 10 would be a good investment. Just invest in a joystick from the onset. I would like to see more realistic simulators like XPlane 10 in the near future. This Personal Computer video game helps add to my respect for pilots.
