uWordsmith

Throughout the year there are video games that capture the attention of staffers at Family Friendly Gaming. uWordsmith has the honor of being the first game to do that in the year of our Lord 2015. This spelling game has some fun twists families will enjoy.

The television screen shows an image, and the Wii U Gamepad has letters. Players must look at the picture and spell the word on the bottom screen while playing uWordsmith. This sounds simple for a downloadable only video game right? Well what do you do when you have no clue what the picture is of?

Thankfully CHUDCHUD Industries thought of that with their intelligently designed uWordsmith. There is a practice mode for any of the twelve topics (which have eighteen pictures that must be spelled out). It is easy to re-arrange letters in uWordsmith on the Wii U Gamepad.

The only downside to uWordsmith in my opinion is the replay. There are only so many objects, and it actually gets easier spelling the same things in harder difficulties. Why? Letters appear on the bottom screen to help you spell out the word. Which means I completed medium faster than easy.

Outside of the practice mode, players are given only so much time. When I started to play uWordsmith I complained there was not enough time. I then quickly remembered the words that matched the pictures and time rarely became a problem. Only on some of the longer words.

I like uWordsmith. I like it a lot. uWordsmith is one of those games up to four family members can enjoy at the same time. This downloadable only Wii U video game encourages us to match letters to words to pictures. uWordsmith also teaches spelling. There are some tough words in uWordsmith.

I wish uWordsmith had more pictures and words. I also hope uWordsmith will be released in a physical format in some way, shape or form in the future. I know plenty of families that only buy physical copies of games. Which means they will not have the opportunity to play uWordsmith on the Wii U.
