California Games

We are continuing our reviews of the Atari Lynx games Tim Emmerich is letting us borrow. California Games contains BMX, Surfing, Half Pipe, and Footbag. All of these look decent, and have some nice music included. Footbag is the easiest one to play and became my personal favorite. It takes time to learn how to play the other games in California Games.

The goal in California Games is to score the highest points you can in each of the little events. There is a timer on each of the sports. No matter how well you do that timer will expire after a few minutes. Certain events can be failed before the timer ends. California Games is an old school game which means it does not explain what to do or how to do it. Families must figure it out for themselves.

It is so easy to crash in BMX and Surfing. I also had problems getting speed going on the Half Pipe. Surfing is one of the most interesting looking events visually in California Games. BMX does the most things, and Footbag is the easiest one to figure out. Especially if you do numerous hacky sack head bounces. California Games is selling for a decent price used. So this is a game families may take an interest in. Especially families that retro game on hand helds.
