Castles

Family Friendly Gaming was equipped with a digital download code for Castles on the Xbox One. There are no physical copies of this game. I know how much that bums the millions upon millions of gamers and families solidly in the physical copy movement. I have no control over aspects of the industry like that. I can mention it so companies know what all ya'll want from every single video game. Like being able to play off of cartridge or disc.

Castles is a really great idea for a puzzle game. There is a five by five grid in Castles. Players must move around their guy and match three of more of the same thing. This can be three grass blocks, three shovel blocks, or some other combination that matches. Players must beat ten levels in a row before facing off against the boss character. This is where Castles becomes insanely difficult.

I could not find a way to make Castles easier to play. I wish the story mode was more accessible to those of without Superman's reflexes. Also be careful of falling objects in Castles. They can crush your poor little builder. Which is lame since he will reset somewhere outside the twenty-five box game play area. By the way blocks can fall on top of other blocks and make them go away.

The story mode is the most interesting to me. This king wants to build a really tall tower. Tower of Babel much? An evil king tries to stop him. We play the builders who are building this tower by matching blocks. Don't think about it too much,it will just hurt your head. At least it hurt mine. There is also survival mode which is go as long and as far as you can. The final mode is competitive. For those that like to compete.

The controls were a bit touchy for me at first with Castles. The difficulty spikes way up in Castles on the bosses. They can really frustrate the player. Castles caused real world anger which makes the world a worse place. The goals in each of the levels is easy enough to complete if you pay attention to them. I love the idea of Castles. I just wish it were easier to play in the boss levels. I failed over and over again there. Which soured the experience of this game for me.
