Courageous
SCORE: 60
Courageous is one fascinating Christian film. The Kendrick brothers pick up where they left off with Fireproof - blame men for everything. Courageous tries to show men as selfish, and could care less about their wives and children. The wives in Courageous are very weak characters. The children are shown as extremely needy.
There is blood, violence, drugs, and death in Courageous. The lack of realism in many of the scenes drove me insane. As did the poorly written dialogue. Courageous is extremely preachy. The arrogance and judgemental nature of Courageous is going to turn off the group they claim they are trying to reach. Courageous does little to show men who are doing the right thing.
The whole cash in nature of Courageous bothers me. They want men to buy a contract they publish that relates to this movie. Then there are the books, lesson plans, CDs, and more that are all being sold in relation to Courageous. I question how much they want to actually help, and how much they want to make money.
There are a nice array of special features in Courageous. From commentary, to the making of the movie, to bloopers, the movie in 60 seconds, and more. I enjoyed a few of those. One shining moment in Courageous is the whole Snake Kings scene. One of the few laugh out loud moments in Courageous.
Courageous is not for kids. Teenagers may get interested in Courageous. I think the main audience that will like Courageous is women. Since Courageous is a flat out constant attack on men. With all of that written there are a few shining gems in Courageous. Like be honest, and have integrity. It is rewarded in Courageous. Too bad that is not always the case in our world.
