Dungelot Shattered Lands
SCORE: 64
Imagine a dungeon crawler video game mixed with Minesweeper. That is
what Dungelot Shattered Lands is. Like other games from tinyBuild,
expect this downloadable only video game to start easy, get tough, and
if you can get past it fun again. Dungelot Shattered Lands relies a lot
on luck. Some floors gave me all kinds of food and money, and others
were full of enemies.
We never know what we will get out of a floor in Dungelot Shattered
Lands. Since your character can run out of health, and die from
starvation all of those floors can add up. Dungelot Shattered Lands
contains eighteen dungeons so you can expect it to be difficult.
Dungelot Shattered Lands is a game geared toward the hardcore gamers.
Casual gamers will get frustrated early on.
I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a reviewable copy of
Dungelot Shattered Lands on Steam. I like the idea behind this game that
does not provide for physical copy gamers. Dungelot Shattered Lands
contains turn based violence, alcohol references, false gods, no ability
to grind, randomized floors, zombies, vampires, and more. There are word
based choices in certain areas like helping a dying soldier, or going
into a dark cave. They can help or hurt.
The music in Dungelot Shattered Lands is good. The graphics are decent.
The animations are at the app level. Salvaging items builds a bar that
can provide wonderful attacks when full. For example the hand of God
will come down and smite the creature attacking you. At a very low
percentage of course. Characters can and will level up. There are four
characters in Dungelot Shattered Lands. Three of them have to be saved
in the dungeons.
The game play mechanics are very cool in Dungelot Shattered Lands. The
randomization is what hurts this video game. I could fail over and over
again because there was no food to find. Or the monsters were too tough.
I tried to go back and grind on previous dungeons and Dungelot Shattered
Lands would not let me. That left me with two choices; give up, or keep
trying and hope for a luckier outcome. Gold is lost each time you die in
a dungeon so it can backwards really quickly.
