Ginger Beyond the Crystal

I saw some pictures of Ginger Beyond the Crystal, and read a press release. I thought this might be a pretty cool little platformer. Unfortunately Ginger Beyond the Crystal is misaligned. Ever play a game and feel like something is off? Then you analyze it and notice animations are a little weird, there are small quirks and glitches. Collision detection was not always accurate either.

I did not know why this little blue creature was going on a quest. I hoped for an epic story that could be embraced by millions. Then I was shocked to find controversial and highly divisive content in Ginger Beyond the Crystal. This digital downloadable video game promotes idol worship, and a false goddess. Crystals are another part of the deeply religious system in Ginger Beyond the Crystal. So many families will be offended by this content. I am dismayed to find it, and it is heavily in there too.

The goal of the main Smurf looking character (without a hat) in Ginger Beyond the Crystal is to purify the crystals. He also gets to go on quests, save villagers, and rebuild the town. Resources are collected and they are used to rebuild the destroyed building in this town filled with strange and slightly disturbing looking creatures. For me it felt like going into a village where they worshiped Baal and being asked to fix their village and worship a false god.

Ginger Beyond the Crystals is colorful. The music is nice. I am not big on the special effect sounds. Especially the noises that are made before the text from a character shows up. Like the druids for example. Creepy is the best way I can describe it. Dialogue can be skipped. The strange thing is we can not spam 'X' to get through text faster. Even after I read it, I had to either skip the entire conversation or sit there for a few seconds waiting for the game. Another part that is just off in this game.

Ginger Beyond the Crystal is a heft download size. Families with economy Internet plans will have to wait and see if a physical copy is ever released. The combat is pretty lame, and the computer AI is barely existent. Players have very little health, and few ways to recover. Die too many times and the entire area must be replayed. The loading times in Ginger Beyond the Crystal are long. Changing outfits for different powers is cool but limited. I like the map and how the lights show me where to go in Ginger Beyond the Crystal.
