Goosebumps The Game

Family Friendly Gaming was recently provided a digital download copy of Goosebumps The Game. This hand held video game on the Nintendo 3DS comes in the much sought after physical copy format too (which we had actually requested since physical copies do less damage than digital downloads). This is a video game that can scare kids. It can even scare adults with some of the freaky images and unsettling sounds. Goosebumps The Game does warn families that it intends to scare you.

The visuals on Goosebumps The Game are on the dark side. There are ghosts, and other scary characters in Goosebumps The Game. I learned one important lesson in Goosebumps The Game. What is that lesson? Do not trust anybody. Every single time I trusted someone my character wound up dead. I also had to learn to find certain items to get past certain areas.

Goosebumps The Game feels and plays like Shadowgate. Goosebumps The Game looks better than the 8-bit NES video game. Players use the little joystick or a stylus on the screen to move the green hand cursor around the screen, then press a button to see if there is any interaction with that object. Maybe it is something we can pick up, or maybe we can open a cabinet.

The key to Goosebumps The Game is finding where things go. Some of them are easy like weed killer on a plant man who kills you. Or a certain key to unlock a certain door. Other things require a bit more thought. I also found I could try objects against certain places to see if they worked. Goosebumps The Game contains a fair amount of trial and error. Once you figure it out, then Goosebumps The Game feels really short.

Goosebumps The Game describes the various death scenes with words. Some of the images in Goosebumps The Game can give kids nightmares. Wayforward took an interesting gamble with this franchise. I did not expect Goosebumps The Game to be this kind of a point and click adventure. Surprisingly it works for Goosebumps The Game. At least in my opinion.
