Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails

I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails on the Nintendo 3DS. This downloadable only hand held video game is all about running the trains. Families will learn how to make stops, pick up cargo, pick up passengers, and deliver them to their destinations before the timer expires. Families will also learn to move tracks around on maps to hit all of the associated points.

Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails has a story mode and a creative mode. In creative mode families can build the tracks they want in a nice selection of areas. Then take a train around and see what it looks like. I ran into some glitches in creative mode. Things like putting track over the water with no bridge built. The train ran fine with no support. I was also able to run track right through hills. That was a strange visual glitch.

The story mode in Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails gets more difficult per level. There are sixteen levels in Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails. Families have multiple tasks to complete in each of the levels. Miss one of those tasks and you fail the level. Run out of time before you complete all of the tasks and you fail the level. The only way to win is to do all of them before time expires.

The trains in Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails can book it. They can get some serious speed. Be careful with cargo and taking curves too fast. The cargo will fall off and you will fail the level. Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails is fun, especially when I learned how to slow down at the various stop points. There is a certain finesse to playing Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails.

The stylus is needed when playing Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails. From the menu selection screens to controlling the train. Big John Games kept Lionel City Builder 3D Rise of the Rails simple for kids to play. Some of the objectives in later levels are not that simple. They will take skill and practice. I also recommend that families play each level one at a time. Skip a level and you will miss important skills.
