Merriam Webster Spell-Jam
SCORE: 70
Family Friendly Gaming was given a copy of Merriam Webster Spell-Jam
on the PC from a friend. This spelling bee kind of a video game is neat
in some ways. In other ways Merriam Webster Spell-Jam made me cringe.
First off Merriam Webster Spell-Jam looks like a game from last century.
It was actually released in 2007. The animations are light, and the
voice acting is horrendous.
Know how so many have said our editor in chief should be the voice of a
variety of franchises? He could have done a thousand times better than
the voice actor sound byte clips in Merriam Webster Spell-Jam. To make
matters we only have so much time to type or click the word we hear. I
had to repeat the word in Merriam Webster Spell-Jam because some other
sound drowned out the game. Even worse I did not understand what they
were saying.
Words can be used in sentences and we can get the definition of them.
Which can be helpful in certain cases. The computer controlled opponents
in Merriam Webster Spell-Jam are insanely good. At times they got easy
words like crew, and I got a word like administrative. I did not have
trouble spelling administrative. It is just the point of the difficulty
seeming very different.
Merriam Webster Spell-Jam contains a game show, competition, and
practice. There are also a limited number of select-able characters in
Merriam Webster Spell-Jam. There are three difficulty settings in
Merriam Webster Spell-Jam. Deaf gamers will not be able to play Merriam
Webster Spell-Jam on the Personal Computer since they can not hear what
the words are.
I enjoyed Merriam Webster Spell-Jam. I wish there was a setting below
ten in terms of rounds. Why? We have to spell ten words per round. That
means one hundred words for one game. That is on the high side in my
opinion. Merriam Webster Spell-Jam was also connected to Best Buy. There
were numerous Best Buy ads in Merriam Webster Spell-Jam.
