My Many Sons

I love watching inspirational movies. I love watching movies based on real people, and real stories. So I was very pleased when a reviewable copy of My Many Sons came in on DVD. This movie is based on the real life story of coach Don Meyer. He broke the record for the most wins by a college coach. That record has since been surpassed by another. It does not diminish his accomplishments.

My Many Sons teaches about more than just basketball. My Many Sons also teaches us about life. Sometimes you do everything right and you still lose. That is life. My Many Sons also teaches us to be exceptional. Do not just coast. Do not give half heartedly. Instead give it your all, all of the time. Like most inspirational movies there are moments of trial and hardship.

Something about My Many Sons that sticks out is the obsessive nature of coach Don Meyer. He obsessed over little things that others would think nothing of. He had hilarious comments in this movie. There is some mild name calling in My Many Sons as well. There is also a bad car accident, blood, and the coach being brought back to life via electrical resuscitation. His shirt is ripped off for the resuscitation. SPOILER ALERT: the coach loses part of one of his legs.

My Many Sons has moments of real bluntness. Kids do not need to follow their parents footsteps. Some parents try to force it on their kids. I loved seeing the various moments of prayer in My Many Sons. The bonus material on the My Many Sons DVD is a bit light. It takes ninety-eight minutes to watch My Many Sons. A variety of different issues like racial ones are touched upon in this movie.

I liked My Many Sons. It showed how hard it must have been to love Don Meyer at first. He went about his business with honor, integrity, and ethics. He gave a variety of players a chance. He is very old school in how things are done. Do it his way, or leave. Which is refreshing to see in this day and age of attempts to equal different morals, and listen to every opinion.
