Punch Club

I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for Punch Club on Steam. This game taps into a variety of different well known pieces of entertainment. From Batman, to Rocky, to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Expect to see references all over the place in Punch Club. From your father being murdered to you trying to find the killer by rising through the ranks in boxing.

There are legal and illegal fights in Punch Club. Expect blood, violence, profanity, crude humor, alcohol, drugs, and crime in Punch Club. Characters are not fully clothed when they punch and kick one another. We ran into lag playing Punch Club, as well as the game crashed on us multiple times. It can take time to train in a way that your fighter will win fights.

There are multiple stats in Punch Club that are important. Punch Club is a mixture between a role playing game and a tycoon video game. The main stats are heart, food, happiness, and energy. The main three things that can be leveled up are strength, agility, and stamina. In a fight you have hit points and energy. Skill points are earned which unlock new attacks, and perks.

Building up your character in Punch Club is important, since you have no control in the fights. We sit there and watch what happens. The random nature to who hits and misses can be frustrating. I outclassed certain opponents and still lost in Punch Club. I then learned to work for money, train way above them, and purchase food to get my belly filled again. I also had to go back to my apartment to rest and recover energy. I wish the fights were done like turn based role playing games. Or even real time fights with players tapping on attacks, dodges, and blocks.

Be careful because Punch Club can be very addicting. The music and graphics remind me of video games from the early 1990s. Punch Club is done in that retro style. There are plenty of interesting story moments in Punch Club. I liked being able to help certain characters, and to do the different jobs. A fair warning on the jobs though - do them too much and you lose your strength, agility, and/or stamina stats. Balance is the key to Punch Club. I wish Punch Club was on the home consoles.
