Risen
SCORE: 78
Christian movies continue to improve, develop, mature, and grow.
Risen has given me the confidence that a movie series could be done on
the Future Glimpses books. Risen tells the story of the resurrection
from the Roman perspective. This non-believer Clavius sees Jesus dies,
and is tasked with finding the body of Jesus after the resurrection.
Problem is there is no dead body to find.
SPOILER ALERT! One of the best scenes in Risen in my opinion is when
Clavius sees Jesus Christ alive and well. He struggles with what he has
seen. How can he deal with the reality that he saw the man dead, and yet
alive again. I also got chills down my spine when the guard tells the
story of what really happened. It fits the facts, unlike the lie the
Pharisees tried to spread.
Families need to be aware of some of the content found within Risen.
There is blood, death, violence, and a battle. We learn about Clavius
from the beginning. He is a soldier who prays to the false god Mars
(Roman god of war). He has to answer to his superior Pilate. He is
constantly dealing with zealot Jews, and killing them. He also sees his
soldiers die in battles from the zealots.
The acting and the music in Risen is stellar. I really loved some of the
dialogue in Risen. Family Friendly Gaming was provided the Blu-ray
version of Risen for this review. The bonus features on the Blu-ray disc
are Deleted Scenes, The Battle of the Zealots Deconstructed, The Mystery
of the Resurrection Making Risen, Creating A.D. Jerusalem, Script to
Screen, and Feature Commentary.
Risen is a powerful movie. I love the detective nature it takes. I love
the questions that come from Clavius. Thankfully the blood, and the
battle are a short part of Risen. I appreciate the focus of Risen
staying on Clavius. It was a joy for me to watch and review Risen on
Blu-ray. I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was provided a copy of
Risen on Blu-ray.
