Shepherd's Crossing
SCORE: 69
I was so happy to hear about Shepherd's Crossing on the Playstation
2. Here is a game that sounds very family friendly that never entered
Family Friendly Gaming Universe. No wonder it flopped and failed. Well
there are a few other reasons Shepherd's Crossing flopped and failed. I
will get into that in my review. Shepherd's Crossing is not like Harvest
Moon. Which is a shame because I hoped Shepherd's Crossing would be like
Harvest Moon, and leave out all that false goddess garbage.
Players have a screen where they can harvest grass, and a small pen to
house animals. There is also a small area where players can see what
kind of hunting animals they have. That is where the violence comes into
play in Shepherd's Crossing. Families do not buy and sell in Shepherd's
Crossing. Instead they trade up. So trade in some grass for seeds, or
some hay for a marmot. Marmot for a rabbit, and so on.
It is easy to fast forward a day in Shepherd's Crossing with L1. There
are talking ducks with what looks like wine bottles on their backs that
can be helpful. They can do a variety of things on the farm for the
player. They were not always helpful though. Then there are other
glitches like having a marmot born and it never appears anywhere. Or not
able to move animals from the pen to the farm. You can get rid of them
entirely.
Shepherd's Crossing is weak and light on explaining what to do and how
to do it. We can also only carry three items at any time. Signs have to
be placed at the right places or seeds will just sit on the ground. The
control scheme is odd, and the collision detection is a pain. Let alone
the highlight detection. Since there are so many objects that can stop a
player from running around, there is instant transmission to a spot on
the map of your choosing.
If you are looking for a Harvest Moon experience then you will be
disappointed with Shepherd's Crossing. I am disappointed with Shepherd's
Crossing on the Playstation 2. I understand using animals to protect
your farm. I don't get the point of a farmer going out hunting wild
beasts. Shepherd's Crossing feels really disconnected to me. Like they
wanted to make two different games, could not decide, and just merged
them.
I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming purchased Shepherd's Crossing on
the PS2. Shepherd's Crossing burst the bubble I had prepared for it. In
a way it is a good thing because all ya'll now know about this home
console video game. You no longer need to wonder if Shepherd's Crossing
is any good. I will avoid this franchise for the foreseeable future.
