Sonic Boom Fire & Ice
SCORE: 80
Love it or hate it, Sonic has been rebooted into Sonic Boom. I
personally loved the Sonic X anime shows on DVD. I have not see enough
of Sonic Boom to know if I will like it or not. The package of Sonic
Boom Fire & Ice that Family Friendly Gaming was provided included a DVD
with three episodes of the Sonic Boom television show. I found this very
interesting. Hopefully it is a sign of entire seasons of Sonic Boom
being released on DVD to retail.
Sonic Boom Fire & Ice is a 2D side scrolling action adventure platformer
where we swap between characters. I should mention the characters need
to be unlocked first. What is really cool is we can take unlocked
characters back to previous levels to progress through more of the
level. Sonic Boom Fire & Ice has different characters with a variety of
different skills.
The most interesting game play mechanic in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice is the
fire and ice. We come up to blocks of water in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice. We
can have ice on, and as soon as we step on the water block it turns to
ice. Fire will melt the ice blocks into water. This is interesting, but
it has one flaw. It slows down the game play of Sonic Boom Fire & Ice.
Sonic is all about speed. So having to stop and swap (via the touch
screen, L button, or R button) slowed me down each and every time.
Three family members can enjoy Sonic Boom Fire & Ice on the Nintendo 3DS
since it has three save slots. There is action adventure violence as we
attack robotic creatures. The good news is there are little animals
enslaved in the robotic enemies. So attacking them frees them from their
bondage. That is something I can get behind the support. What about you?
Sonic Boom Fire & Ice breaks the fourth wall. In other words characters
in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice are aware they are in a game, and part of
merchandising. The voice acting in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice is pretty good.
It is cool to see voice acting in a Nintendo 3DS game too. Be careful on
the level complete screen in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice. Why? The A button is
replay. Normally in other games the A button is continue on.
I liked the clips from the show in Sonic Boom Fire & Ice. I also liked
the different kinds of levels. From the vehicles levels to the 2D side
scrolling levels, to the Sonic Dash like levels. Boss fights in Sonic
Boom Fire & Ice are a real treat. I wish Sonic Boom Fire & Ice explained
how the characters got their powers. Sonic Boom Fire & Ice is a solid
Sonic game for hand held gamers. I wish we had gotten this game before
the Christmas Buying Guide went online. It can compete in next years.
