Star Ghost
SCORE: 69
When my dad told me about Star Ghost I started to get all excited. I
thought it was the Gamecube game that had gotten canceled years ago. I
was wrong. The Gamecube game I was thinking about was Starcraft Ghost.
Star Ghost on the Wii U does have some similarities with the game I was
thinking of. Star Ghost is a side scrolling 2D shooter. We blow away a
variety of creatures and objects in this downloadable only home console
video game.
The music in Star Ghost is really cool. I liked listening to it while
trying to avoid things like viruses. Why are viruses bad in Star Ghost?
They take away your ability to shoot. Which can be the only thing that
saves your little ship in some levels in Star Ghost. Once you get one
virus you will know what to avoid in the future. There are a variety of
cool positive and helpful upgrades in Star Ghost.
I have a couple of issues with Star Ghost. The first is the upgrades are
on a timer and they go away quickly. I also noticed Star Ghost is like
an arcade experience where you start in the first area, and can not pick
up where you last left off. A continuation concept would have been cool
for Star Ghost. The way to go vertical in Star Ghost is to press 'A'.
The way to go down is to let go of the 'A' button. Staying stable in
Star Ghost is a pain.
The controls take some serious adjustment. The graphics in Star Ghost
are better for an indie game than I was expecting. There is violence in
Star Ghost as we are shooting a variety of things flying around. The
ship will auto fire in Star Ghost. So all the player needs to concern
themselves with is finding the right vertical vector to be on. This is
harder than it sounds though.
I had fun playing Star Ghost. It feels like an old arcade video game
with a different kind of a control scheme. Star Ghost is not as crazy as
some of the older shooter my dad has let me play. The down side is we do
not have ability to go forward or backward on the scrolling screen.
Which would have been handy in Star Ghost. Is Star Ghost a sign that 2D
side scrolling shooters are making a comeback?
