The BFG

Family Friendly Gaming received the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD version of The BFG. I am very thankful we were sent this movie. The reactions to The BFG range here at Family Friendly Gaming. Some were into this movie based on the big friendly giant, and others did not get it. The BFG starts pretty dark too. A girl from an orphanage with insomnia gets kidnapped by a giant since she saw him.

Giants are not very bright in The BFG. There are other giants in this movie besides the friendly one. The other ones are larger and eat humans. They are also a bit dumber than The BFG (aka Runt). They can smell humans. Which means bringing the little girl Sophie to Giant Country immediately puts her in danger. One would think The BFG would have learned from that mistake.

The BFG has a lot of charm to it. Relationships are explored in this movie. The whole catching dreams, and giving them to people in The BFG is a really cool concept. That makes Runt like a Sandman character in The BFG. His attempts at speech can lead to some humorous moments in The BFG. There is also some rude humor related to gaseous emissions.

One of the things about The BFG that really impressed me is how stealthy Runt can be in a city. A giant should stick out like a sore thumb right? He finds ways to blend in and look like a part of the area. This works even better since he travels there at night. The other giants harass Runt and there are some moments of peril in The BFG. Thankfully they are short lived.

As The BFG progresses it becomes more bright and more hopeful. SPOILER ALERT! The queen of England helps Runt get rid of the other giants. They are taken to another island. Since they hate water they won't be swimming away anytime soon. Runt can then live out his life alone on his island without others interfering with his work. He can collect dreams and give them to human beings.
