The Curious Expedition

I am so thankful the Emperor told me about The Curious Expedition on Steam. I let him know that I would like to play it, so he requested a reviewable copy. Guess what? One arrived and I have played this exploration game. I am thankful we were provided a digital download code for The Curious Expedition on the PC. I failed to find any information on a physical copy of The Curious Expedition.

The graphics in The Curious Expedition are very indie. Some of them look like they are 16-bit, and others look like they are 8-bit. Players pick a person to go on expeditions in The Curious Expedition. We then travel to the location and start to explore the unknown areas. There are multiple characters to pick from in The Curious Expedition. Some of them are extremely controversial and highly divisive like Charles Darwin.

Some of the concepts in The Curious Expedition that families will want to be briefed on are evolution theory religious belief, violence, blood, sacrifices to false gods, alcohol, loss of sanity from traveling, and more. I did notice references to God in The Curious Expedition which is really neat to see. I wish it had been historically accurate with: "in the year of our Lord."

The violence in The Curious Expedition is handled by rolling dice. There are different colored dice so there is a bit of strategy to it. There is also strategy when you get back from your expedition. You can keep the loot and gain all kinds of money. Or you can donate it to one of those museums for fame. I despise museums. They charge money and they are given their stuff for free. Then they will sell stuff later one for a massive profit. Talk about a scam. The Curious Expedition encourages us to give away the loot to the museums.

There are three difficulty settings in The Curious Expedition. They are tourist trip, expedition, and certain death. I found the last one so cheery if you know what I mean. I liked getting perks after each expedition in The Curious Expedition. This downloadable only video game is not for everyone. Some family members will be interested in the exploration. There are content issues that will keep some families away.
