Wipeout 3
SCORE: 68
I am very thankful I received Wipeout 3 on the Nintendo 3DS as a
Christmas gift, since the PR and Marketing for Activision failed Family
Friendly Gaming so miserably. Behaviour Interactive finally found the
right balance in game play and accessibility for family gamers. I was
able to beat every single level in Wipeout 3 the first time after I got
past the first couple of levels.
The shop in Wipeout 3 really helps. It improves the stats of the player
in the boots, gloves, and helmets. Those three will help families make
it past the two hundred obstacles in the various themed events. I liked
some of the events better than others personally. I had fun making it
through the various obstacles thanks to timing, jumping, and squatting.
I still can not stand those big red balls.
The announcers have comments that are not always appropriate. They can
be funny at times. Other times I just shook my head. I wound up turning
the volume of Wipeout 3 off so I did not have to listen to their
chatter. The music in Wipeout 3 is catchy. I wish there was an easier
way to turn off the announcers. Their glee at others getting hurt is
borderline psychotic.
I like how Wipeout 3 looks. Certainly better than previous games. There
are some characters who could use more attire. It is always painful to
see the character hit by something. Thankfully a large 1960s Batman kind
of word will appear on the screen. This helps shield the player from the
violence. Falling into the mud or water is not that bad since the game
goes into the replay view very quickly.
I had fun playing Wipeout 3. It is not a perfect game. Certainly the
best hand held version I have played to this point. I hope this
franchise continues for many years to come (I know about Wipeout 4
Create and Crash). This franchise continues to improve in meaningful
ways. I am thankful I had the time to play and review Wipeout 3 on the
Nintendo 3DS. This game has a value of ten dollars in my opinon.
