Assetto Corsa

My excitement levels hit an all time high when Family Friendly Gaming purchased a copy of Assetto Corsa on the Xbox One for a review. I could put the failures of the PR and Marketing of 505 Games behind me. I could enjoy an amazing racing sim with all kinds of tweaks that can be made to this car. Then I played Assetto Corsa in special events, drive, and career. Why would they make their game unplayable?

Graphically Assetto Corsa looks okay. I have seen way better looking racing games. The graphics in Assetto Corsa are slightly better than a PS3 or Xbox 360 game. There is bad language to compliment the good music. The long installation (why can’t we play off disc?) is complimented by the long loading screens. The controls feel off in Assetto Corsa. The driving line is not accurate, and does not update based on speed.

The penalties in Assetto Corsa are hilarious. I can bumper car into the other vehicles, and spin them out. No penalty for that. If I go off the track for just a second - BAM ten second penalty. I went off the track because the drive line was not accurate. On top of that the computer controlled cars can breeze right on through those red lines without braking. Different set of rules for the player and computer?

There are close to one hundred cars, and eighteen tracks in Assetto Corsa. A few of the tracks have more than one configuration to them. The tracks look nice. They should since they were laser scanned. I wish the physics were better in Assetto Corsa. Drifting is simple in Assetto Corsa. Turn into or out of a turn while turning and you will drift. There are no options to adjust the difficulty setting.

Assetto Corsa is for hardcore simulation racing fans who can handle the quirky controls. I did not have fun playing Assetto Corsa. It led to real world stress, irritation, anger, frustration, and unhappiness. I value Assetto Corsa at five dollars brand new. I found Assetto Corsa to be too difficult, too cheap, and too broken. Spend your money on something better.
