Castlevania

A reader requested a retro review of Castlevania. Family Friendly Gaming already owned a copy of this 8-bit video game so it was just a matter of finding time to play this dracula hunting video game. This home console video game spawned numerous sequels. In some ways I can see why and in other ways I don’t get it.

Castlevania is a hard game. There are three lives in the areas. Players can continue if they lose all three lives. Castlevania is very cheap in its hits. Enemies will re-appear and be a real pain. Especially with the lag in this game. Man you retro gamers have to deal with lag that drives me crazy. I should press a button and then the attack happens. Not so in Castlevania. Then there is the timer. I like to explore and find hidden blocks. I would have beaten certain bosses if it weren’t for that timer.

The music in Castlevania is fantastic. The level layout is has an intelligent design. The graphics look horrible today. Back in that era there were some neat things done like background graphics. There is violence in Castlevania. If you want a challenging dracula hunting retro game then check out Castlevania.
