Lifespeed
SCORE: 66
Family Friendly Gaming was offered a digital download code for
Lifespeed on the Nintendo 3DS. That offer was accepted. I am thankful
the code was sent our direction. Lifespeed looks amazing for an indie
made video game. The sounds and the storyline are also top notch for an
indie game. The controls are a different story, and I will get into that
in my review. Look for it.
For the millions of upon millions of gamers in the physical copy
movement - Lifespeed is only provided in the digital downloadable
format. Lifespeed is also only playable on the most recent Nintendo 3DS
XL systems. I tried to download Lifespeed on an original Nintendo 3DS
and it errored out. Which is a shame to expect families to upgrade to
the most current version of the system. I saw nothing in Lifespeed that
made me believe it would not work on the original 3DS.
The intro movie in Lifespeed is exceptional. I was shocked to see it.
The story is told in a comic book like fashion. Which looks better in 3D
than in the normal and reliable 2D mode. I jammed out to the music in
Lifespeed while playing it on the Nintendo 3DS XL. The storyline
involves wars being fought in races instead of troops and weapons. The
flying vehicles have weapons in Lifespeed.
Lifespeed is hard. Lifespeed is frustrating. I tried the easiest
difficulty mode and lost in Story mode. I also tried the Single Race,
and Championship modes. I lost in them. I lost over and over again.
Lifespeed taught me one thing - the computer controlled racers are way
better than me. I dropped multiple places after making one mistake. Like
four to five places.
The layout of the levels in Lifespeed leaves multiple places where we
can get stuck. Since the throttle is always on (unless you press the
brake button), you can expect to get stuck on walls. I got stuck high,
low, right side, and left side in Lifespeed. I got hit with weapons from
the other vehicles. I ran into objects and got stuck, or turned around
and had to wait to reset.
Lifespeed teaches us to bring down the government. I like the different
rings in Lifespeed. We fly through them to repair the ship, get weapons,
power up, and more. That can be the key to getting into first and losing
in ninth place. I was actually in first place for a few seconds a couple
of times while playing Lifespeed on the Nintendo 3DS. Hardcore gamers
who like an ultra challenge will get into Lifespeed.
