Pankapu
SCORE: 58
I extend my gratitude that Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital
download code for Pankapu on the Playstation 4. This 2D side scrolling
action adventure video game with role playing elements is also available
on the PC (via Steam), and the Xbox One. Pankapu is a downloadable only
video game. Physical copy gamers are denied access to Pankapu on all
three systems.
Pankapu is an episodic adventure. That means there is more of this game
coming in the future. That is the good news. The bad news is you will
have to pay more to play more. There is also action adventure violence
as we slash our way through a variety of blob like enemies. Pankapu is
deeply religious with all kinds of false gods, goddesses, and spirits.
Some of the religious aspects are similar to the Gaia religious beliefs.
I found nothing that supported the Judaeo-Christian belief set that the
super majority of Americans identify with.
The story line in Pankapu revolves around Dreamland. The main character
is a dreamkeeper that was created by the false god of dreams. He sends
out us to stop the nightmares from taking over Dreamland. We are one
hero listening to voice acting and really cool music on a quest to
destroy all of the black blobs. I guess Pankapu does not want to
celebrate the diversity of nightmares, or listen to them and learn from
their diversity.
Along the way the main character in Pankapu will find magic to open the
way. I love how far we can jump when we hold down the jump button in
Pankapu. Some of those platforms are tiny and can be difficult to land
on. There are plenty of obstacles on top of the enemies to stop us. Why
do the spikes hurt us, but not the enemies? That felt cheap to me
personally.
Pankapu is a 2.8 gig download on the PS4. The graphics look nice in
Pankapu. It made me think of Child of Light. Only Pankapu is brighter
and more colorful. I wish the radical religious beliefs had been kept
out of Pankapu. I know plenty of people that will reject this game
because they see it as an attack on their religious beliefs. Family
Friendly Gaming has been telling RPG makers this truth for over a decade
now. Obviously they are not listening or just want to limit their sales.
