Queen of Katwe
SCORE: 81
The Queen of Katwe movies is based on Phiona Mutesi - a young girl in
Uganda. She is in the slums. Queen of Katwe shows the difference between
the rich and the poor in Africa. Queen of Katwe also deals with issues
like women having babies outside of wedlock and trying to feed them.
Thankfully there is Christian ministries over there trying to help.
I am very thankful Disney sent us a copy of Queen of Katwe on Blu-ray +
Digital HD. This is a story of triumph, hope, and improving your station
in life. Phiona learns chess and constantly improves. She eventually
surpasses her own coach in terms of thinking so many moves ahead. She
has a bad habit of freaking out when she makes a mistake or the
challenge looks too difficult.
Queen of Katwe deals with some issues that families may have issues
with. The area in Queen of Katwe looks over populated. Most of the male
characters are selfish in Queen of Katwe. There is blood, an accident,
enticement to lust, and more. There are good moral lessons in Queen of
Katwe. Homelessness is hard, the river does not care who or what you are
when it carries things away, life has value, and more.
After watching Queen of Katwe we can tell how blessed we are in America.
Even with economic issues in America we have it better than those in the
slums in Uganda. Some areas look like they were bombed. It is also makes
me realize how important different ministries are. Even ministries like
Family Friendly Gaming are used to point people to God. Queen of Katwe
references God numerous times.
There are some obstacles in Queen of Katwe that I was not expecting.
There are some issues that were very predictable. Like when the older
daughter starts going out with this guy on a motorcycle. She disobeys
her mother, and it winds up costing her. The mother is also a bit proud
and has trouble accepting help. We all have free will and Queen of Katwe
shows what happens when too many people make the wrong choices. Queen of
Katwe also shows what happens to an entire family when one young lady
makes the right choices.
