Shovel Knight Specter of Torment

I appreciate Yacht Club Games sending over a digital download code for Shovel Knight Specter of Torment on the Nintendo Switch. I hope Shovel Knight Specter of Torment gets a physical copy like the original Shovel Knight did. Shovel Knight Specter of Torment is a prequel to Shovel Knight. I heard that and got so excited. I was all ready to play Shield Knight. Sadly Shovel Knight Specter of Torment has us play Specter Knight. He serves the Enchantress in hopes of getting your humanity back. I hate playing bad guys that create even more villains.

Shovel Knight Specter of Torment reminds me more of early Mega Man video games than the original Shovel Knight. After the initials stages then we can pick which knight to go after. They all have themes like Mega Man areas. Then we go through 2D side scrolling areas and work our way through multiple areas to the boss. There are sub bosses in Shovel Knight Specter of Torment that can be challenging.

The content in Shovel Knight Specter of Torment that families need to be informed of is violence, magic, and more. We play an anti-hero in Shovel Knight Specter of Torment that is spreading evil. I felt horrible doing that. Specter Knight can climb walls (for a little bit), slash upwards, slash downwards, two player mode, amiibo support and more. Some levels are easy in Shovel Knight Specter of Torment, and some are hard. Some areas are even timed based.

I liked getting new weapons and magic in Shovel Knight Specter of Torment. Remember to collect those gems. This is one helpful aspect of the amiibo support - they provide more gems in the fairy form. Shovel Knight Specter of Torment is too different from the original Shovel Knight for my tastes. Plus I expect to be able to play Shield Knight in a prequel to Shovel Knight.

The retro music and retro graphics fit the theme of this downloadable only home console video games. I noticed some new things like switches, and rails that let us slide. I am not that big on the rails personally. Shovel Knight Specter of Torment feels more difficult than the original Shovel Knight to me. I am looking forward to a sequel to Shovel Knight in the near future. I thought this game should be rated 'E10+' instead of 'E'.
