Shred It!
SCORE: 81
I am cynical. It is part of who I am right now. When my dad told me
we received a digital download code for Shred It! on the Playstation 4 I
groaned. Not another indie game that makes me want to quit playing video
games. I started to play Shred It!. This game is actually cool. This
game is actually fun. This game is actually worthy of getting attention.
Family Friendly Gaming has helped a variety of companies become
successful over the years. Shred It! is a game that needs to succeed.
The graphical style in Shred It! reminds me of Tearaway. Why is that?
Because Shred It! has a paper motif to it. We collect leaves, and earn
paperclips. The seven playable characters in Shred It! all have paper
graphical looks to them. The music in Shred It! is fantastic. Why is it
so many indie developers can make wonderful sounds? Whatever the reason
Extra Mile Studios has done it.
Shred It! is mixture between a runner and a snowboarding game. We move
away from the screen, and see what is coming farther out on the screen.
We can jump, and duck in Shred It!. There are numerous items to collect
along the way. If you get three golden feathers in one area then you
will get bonus leaves in the next area. There are also acorns, and more
in Shred It!.
I do have one problem with Shred It!. The jump button did not always
work. I tried multiple controllers and all of them had the same issue.
This jump not working is not all the time either. Since I can only take
two hits before losing the game (unless you spend paperclips to
continue), it can be a real downer. I don't know why this happened
certain times and not others.
Families get some fun modes in Shred It!. There is Endless Slopes, Check
Point Challenge, and Chill Session. Endless Slopes is the main game play
mode where you collect items, and get farther. Check Point Challenge is
timed, so you need avoid mistakes, collect leaves for more time, and get
to each check point. The Chill Session is a much easier mode where you
have less stumps, and branches in your way. Shred It! also has a Daily
Challenge.
I wish Shred It! came in the extremely popular physical copy format. I
know a lot of families that only purchase physical copies of games, and
they will miss out on Shred It!. It was a pleasure for me to play and
review Shred It! on the Playstation 4. I hope to see more games like
this in the future. Everyone here at Family Friendly Gaming has been
enjoying Shred It!.
