Bases Loaded
SCORE: 56
Did you watch our video of Bases Loaded on
the NES? I hope so. It will help explain how I feel about this game. We
can pick one of twelve teams to play. Graphically Bases Loaded is really
lacking. This is an 8-bit game so there are some nice animations in the
pitching and batting. The rest of the screens do not look so good. Why
do we always have to go back to the batting order after each batter?
The music in Bases Loaded is okay. It could be better and it could be
worse. There are glitches when a sound byte has to come up. Like a foul
ball for instance. The graphics freeze while the announcer tells us it
is a foul ball. Two players can wrack up really high scores. Pitches can
be moved in the air to make them unhittable. The computer is good at
doing this to the player. Expect to lose a lot in Bases Loaded against
the computer.
The biggest problem with Bases Loaded is the fielding. The game gives us
the farther away fielder too often. The fielders are way out of place
too often. Running can be a pain in Bases Loaded too. I could not always
go to the next base while the fielder was chasing after a ball that
rolled past him. Bases Loaded can be found cheap. It is a painful retro
game to play though. Jaleco is out of business for a reason.
