Dunkirk
SCORE: 62
Dunkirk is another one of our march to
Christmas movies here at Family Friendly Gaming. I knew very little
about this movie. I knew it had something to do with World War II. The
English and the French had been defeated by the Germans. They were
waiting to be evacuated at Dunkirk. The Germans bombed them but kept the
ground forces at bay. This was a tactical error on Hitlers part.
One of the things I like about Dunkirk is how historically accurate the
movie is. This is a depressing movie as they are trying to stay alive
and get out of there. Soldiers tried all kinds of things to get over the
channel to England. The French did what they could to get on with the
English as well. Dunkirk has violence, blood, bad language, explosions,
and plenty of death.
It took us 106 minutes to watch Dunkirk on DVD. I have no interest in
watching this movie again. There is a separate disc with special
features. They did not appeal to me that much though. I understand the
history and how the troops were evacuated. Hollywood continues to be
extremely obsessed with World War II. That war would have ended
differently if the British Army did not return from France.
I noticed a few interesting aspects of Dunkirk. A plane without any fuel
comes back gliding to take out a German plane. That same pilot lands on
the beach and gets captured by the Germans. The man in charge of the
evacuation stays with the French. I assume he was also captured after
the movie ended. Seems like a messed up thing for an officer to do in my
opinion.
SPOILER ALERT! A young man on a boat hits his head and winds up dead.
That seemed a bit far fetched to me. Dunkirk contains a lot of death.
Bullets are shooting holes in a boat while water is coming into the
hull. The bullets flew through the air, into the water, and then through
the ship hull. I suppose that is possible but it did not seem very
likely to me. All of these are minor quibbles though.
