Fox n Forests
SCORE: 56
Family Friendly Gaming was emailed a digital download code for Fox n
Forests on the Playstation 4. This downloadable only 16-bit video game
is also available on the Nintendo Switch, Personal Computer, and Xbox
One. It would have been really cool if Fox n Forests had been released
on the Sega Genesis and Super NES in cartridge format. It would have fit
the whole 16-bit theme so much better.
Fox n Forests has indie graphics, and indie music. The main characters
in Fox n Forests are a fox and a bird. The fox wants to eat the bird,
but decided to go on a quest for gold instead. The fox still wants to
eat the bird eventually. Some religious tree is in the forest and needs
help stopping an evil force from creating a fifth season. The fox and
the bird have horrible attitudes and treat one another really badly.
One of the game play mechanics found within Fox n Forests is changing
the season. We need to do this to get past certain areas. The season we
change it to has a gauge which means we can only keep it in the season
for so long. When the gauge runs out we must sit and wait for it to
rebuild. This is a horrible game play mechanic in my opinion. Enemies in
Fox n Forests respawn very quickly.
The levels in Fox n Forests are really long. We need to acquire certain
items and/or skills to unlock all parts of the levels. We do this by
killing everything and collecting coins. We then spend those coins on
upgrades for our fox. For some reason it is hard attacking while jumping
in Fox n Forests. When we are standing we shoot a crossbow. When we
crouch we slash with a sword.
Fox n Forests contains violent content within it. We shoot, slice, and
dice a variety of enemy characters in Fox n Forests. Continuation points
must be paid for with gold. Each continuation point costs more than the
last one. Make one mistake and you go back to the last continuation
point. Fail to pay (or do not have the money), and you will go back to
the beginning.
I found myself frustrated with Fox n Forests most of the time. The cheap
hits, quick enemy respawns, paid continuation points added to the bad
attitudes of the characters. Playing Fox n Forests put me in a bad mood.
I had to fix the bad attitude Fox n Forests gave me. I did not enjoy my
time playing Fox n Forests. The season changing mechanic has been used
in a variety of other video games in the past. Nothing new or innovative
in Fox n Forests.
