Grid Mania

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code to Grid Mania on the Nintendo Switch. I almost forgot about this game since there was no game cartridge and video game case to remind me. I take a game to a system when I need to play it. I never turn on a system and see what is installed. Probably why I have been such a big supporter of the physical copy movement.

Grid Mania is 12 megs in size, and it has some nice music. Grid Mania is a puzzle video game with colored marbles. We start with red and blue. Later on in Grid Mania we get other colors. Grid Mania can be played in Casual, Quick, Grid Madness and Chain Reaction. There are 170 custom levels in Grid Mania. There are also randomly generated ones. The goal of Grid Mania is to get all of the marbles in their colored slots.

The trick to Grid Mania is the vertical and horizontal rows. When you move a marble on the vertical or horizontal paths in Grid Mania everything on that row moves with it. This can be great getting two of the right color in the right spot. This can be horrible when you have something in the right spot and it gets moved out. Grid Mania can lead to some real world frustrations. I did learn a trick or two while playing Grid Mania on the Switch.

The controls in Grid Mania are easy to pick up. Move the cursor over which tile you want to move, and then press one of the four buttons. Right goes to the right, left goes to the left, and so on. The hardest part about Grid Mania for me was getting all of the marbles in the right spots without messing up other marbles. Grid Mania will count how many moves it takes you to solve one of their puzzles.

Grid Mania gives puzzle gamers something different to try and solve. Once you beat a level there is no reason to go back to it. Unless you want to get a better score. That may not be possible. You may have done the best that can be done in that puzzle the first time you tried it. It is easy to restart levels in Grid Mania too. I like beating levels and then never seeing them again.
