Lode Runner Legacy

On a planet you know, in a time frame close to now Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code to Lode Runner Legacy on the Nintendo Switch. This downloadable only retro game remake looks sort of like 3D Dot Game Heroes. Everything in Lode Runner Legacy has the blocky look to it. Which in some ways pays its respects to the original game. In other ways it made me wonder why not increase the graphics.

Family members can play Lode Runner Legacy by themselves or with another member of the family. There is an extensive single player mode with over one hundred levels. There is also a Classic Mode in Lode Runner Legacy. How much does all of this content cost? As I write this review it is $11.99. That makes me think a physical copy for Lode Runner Legacy could sell for twenty to thirty dollars brand new.

Lode Runner Legacy is very retro. Lode Runner Legacy is also extremely difficult. You need to learn how to solve the levels. Making matters more difficult are the enemy characters that will run into you and make your character die. You can trap them in holes and make them go away when the hole fills back in. They will respawn nearby and start to harass you again.

I see mild cartoon violence in Lode Runner Legacy. Sadly the ESRB failed at their job yet again. They list no descriptors for Lode Runner Legacy. Did the ESRB even try to play Lode Runner Legacy? At least they could have listened to the nice music in Lode Runner Legacy. Why is it so difficult for the ESRB to get it right? They fail families over and over again.

The AI in Lode Runner Legacy can be a real pain. Especially when they are in the way of you and the last gold to beat a level. At times I could not get the computer controlled characters to move where I needed them to. I got frustrated with Lode Runner Legacy on more than one occasion. I wish Lode Runner Legacy let me do some more modern things like jump.
