Mugsters

My initial reactions to Mugsters were totally, completely, and utterly negative. I was so irritated and annoyed with this downloadable only video game. Graphically Mugsters is nothing to write home about. The lack of music in most areas made Mugsters feel like it was half done. I went back and double checked that I was not being an unpaid Quality Assurance Analyst. I did not even know what I was supposed to do in this game.

The more I played Mugsters the more I found its charm. I figured out the giant soda can looking things were actually explosives. Vehicles could drive through white colored walls. There are people to rescue from these giant canisters, and I could blow generators up. This is where some of the violence comes in. There are red characters who will attack me. I could fight them off most of the time with punches. Expect some blood in Mugsters too.

The graphics are really tiny in Mugsters. I felt like I was playing some old DOS game at first. Maybe Mugsters is going for that retro Amiga look or something. I noticed the controls in things like the vehicles can be a bit loose. There are some physics in Mugsters too. If you take a giant bus to one of the ramps - do not expect to actually make it up the ramp. Now a smaller vehicle like a car can fly right over those ramps.

Mugsters contains a Single Player mode, Multiplayer Mode, Leaderboards, Settings, and Credits. If you do not free all of the humans in a level then it is easy to replay it. All of your past progress in that level is kept. Meaning Mugsters does not force us to replay the same things over and over. I love escaping in the plane in Mugsters. I was worried the first time as I flew off the isometric looking screen.

I love how Mugsters is set up for two kinds of gamers. The 100% completionist can enjoy Mugsters by doing all of the goals. The more casual game can enjoy working through the levels and not doing all of the goals. I had fun Mugsters. There are some cool trophies to unlock in this game if you give it some time. It took me a good thirty minutes to warm up to Mugsters. I am thankful Team17 sent Family Friendly Gaming a digital download code for Mugsters.
