Tennis

I am very thankful Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Tennis on the Nintendo Switch. This title is a downloadable only title. So physical copy gamers are not allowed to play Tennis on the Switch. Tennis reminds me of the Family sports games from the past. This is a bit different though. Tennis does some things to make it more approachable by people with less than stellar sports skills.

How does Tennis make itself more approachable for casual gamers? You do not move your character around the court. They do that by themselves. What you do is press a button to hit the ball, use a super shot, and direct where you want the ball to go. The controls and commands are kept very simple in Tennis. The difficulty is either too easy or impossible to win.

Graphically Tennis looks very indie to me. Well I suppose a couple of steps above indie. The music in Tennis is fun to listen to. I enjoyed some of the comments from the players. Please note the character comments are a bit on the limited side. It was pretty common to hear both tennis players say the same thing as the volley rally count went up. This helped build the powered up super shot.

The modes in Tennis are Rally Challenge, Tournament, Custom Play, Quick Play, and 2 Players vs. There are eight characters to play with different stats. There are six tennis courts to play on in Tennis. Families can earn achievements in Tennis. Sadly Nintendo does not keep track of what you unlock like Microsoft and Sony does. Nintendo does not allow achievements to be sold for money like we can on Steam.

Tennis is definitely designed more for casual gamers. This is totally fine with me. There are plenty of difficult tennis video games out there for sale. It is nice to have an easy one here and there. The characters seem very happy and positive in Tennis to me. I hope to see more games like Tennis in the future. I also wish this franchise will make it into retail stores.
