The Founder
SCORE: 74
My parents told me about The Founder. They had gotten it free from
their library. The library in our area charges money to see movies so I
decided to buy The Founder when it went on sale. I purchased the Blu-ray
+ DVD + Digital version of The Founder. I found this movie to be very
interesting. I also really enjoy seeing movies based on true and real
stories.
The biggest issue with The Founder that families will have is bad
language. I am thankful there were only a couple of words in The Founder
though. The Founder could have gotten a PG rating if the bad language
had been left out. The Founder also has a divorce and Ray Kroc cheating
on his wife (in thought at least) with another married woman. I felt bad
for his wife because she was so mistreated in The Founder.
It took me 115 minutes to watch The Founder from beginning to end. Since
this is Holly Weird there is always some debate on what is historically
accurate and what was changed. There are some very historical accurate
things in The Founder. At least that is my opinion after doing some
research on the movie. Certain aspects like the hand shake and royalties
are up for debate.
The Founder tells the story of the origins of McDonalds. Two brothers
come up with the idea of fast food but do not like the idea of
franchising. Historically speaking the franchising may not be accurate.
Along comes a salesman Ray Kroc. He sees what they are doing and wants
in on it. He gets a bad contract that does not make him money. So he
learns from another gentleman how to take the empire from the brothers.
How did Ray Kroc take their empire from them? Each McDonalds restaurant
leased the land they were on. Ray Kroc bought the land, and leased it to
each restaurant in The Founder. This grew his wealth and power over
McDonalds. The Founder showed me that Ray Kroc was pretty slimy. He had
vision and some good ideas. He ruined his marriage and the marriage of
another couple.
